McCandless of Squirrel Hill was the Treasurer of the McConway & Torley Company of Pittsburgh and involved in the political movements of the early 20th century, serving a year as Director of the Public Safety Department for the City of Pittsburgh under Mayor William A. Magee. This badge is a commemoration of that position.
