Historical NotesThe Slovak Evangelical Union held their eighteenth meeting in Pittsburgh in 1939, when this ribbon was probably used. It was the fourth time the city hosted the organization, and also a memorable one: the SEU voted to officially recognize the Young People's Association as an official body of the organization. The Young People's Association, founded in 1928, was organized in 1929 and focused on priding young Slovaks of their heritage. The United Lutheran Society was formed in 1962 when the Slovak Evangelical Slovak Church Union of the Augsburg Confession in America, founded in 1893, and the Evangelical Slovak Women's Union, organized in 1906, merged. This fraternal benefit society is now open to all persons of the Lutheran faith and provides life and health insurance. It is headquartered in Ligonier, Pennsylvania.
