Historical NotesBernard Purinton was issued a number of patents for innovative techniques involving slip-casting of pottery vessels, and also a "gang mold" process. The signature pieces produced a rather unique blend of unusual modern shapes, combined with traditional-looking hand-painted decoration. The company was started in 1936, in Wellsville, Ohio, relocating to Shippenville, Pennsylvania, in 1941. A second factory opened in Tionesta a few years later; the business was finally liquidated in 1959.
