Historical NotesWorn by Shannon McKruit of the Eureka Fire Rescue Company during rescue and recovery operations at the World Trade Center, September 12 - 25, 2001.Label TextDetermined not to sit idle after learning of the World Trade Center disaster, seven members of Eureka Fire Rescue in Tarentum drove to New York City on the night of September 11, arriving at daybreak the following morning. Almost immediately, they put their rescue truck – a vehicle outfitted with an array of extraction tools pertinent in the recovery efforts – to use at Ground Zero. Shannon McKruit and Leonard Wolfe, two of the seven firefighters who volunteered, wore these helmets while assisting in the relief efforts. While stationed at Ground Zero, the Tarentum volunteers were also assigned authority
