DescriptionRectangular abstract collage with uneven edges. The base is a piece of printed paper, the face of which is red and black (the reverse is white and green). The collage is made up of segments of colored paper, which includes: pink, green, light green, peach, yellow-orange, gray, dark brown, brown, light brown, blue-violet, red-violet, blue, olive gree, red-brown, and black. A segment of red-brown paper is in the proper right corner of the object, with a segment of black paper to its proper left, and segments of blue-violet and olive green above. The proper left corner has a segment of yellow-orange paper with light green and dark brown to its proper right an red-violet above. The center is a segment of blue paper, with pink on light brown below it. The proper left upper corner has a segment of peach paper, with light brown and brown to its proper right and below. Historical NotesArtwork by the Pittsburgh artist Samuel Rosenberg. Artist and teacher Samuel Rosenberg (1896-1972) had a prolific career in Pittsburgh, leading him to be called the “Dean of Pittsburgh painters.” He is perhaps best-known for his scenes of the Hill District in the 1920s and 1930s. Rosenberg was a beloved presence in the Pittsburgh art world and influenced numerous artists through his teaching careers at the Irene Kaufmann Settlement, Young Men & Women’s Hebrew Association, and Carnegie Tech.
