Historical NotesUniversity of Pittsburgh, drum major uniform, 1985. Mr. Brian Lincoln, a graduate of Penn Hills High School and the University of Pittsburgh, was active in the marching band and served as the drum major at both educational institutions. While at Pitt, he was drum major his sophomore year (1985-1986) under the direction of Donald Hower and Vince Biancucci and his senior year (1988-1989) under the direction of O'Neill Sanford and David Moy.Label TextMarching bands provide the soundtrack, pageantry, and atmosphere for high school and college sporting events. Band allowed Brian Lincoln to “find his niche” at school. He first served as a drum major at Penn Hills High School. In college Brian played the baritone horn in the Pitt varsity marching band and served as captain of the Color Guard. His sophomore year, Brian became the first African American drum major at the University of Pittsburgh (1985-1986), an honor he claimed again his senior year (1988-1989). After graduation Brian continued to perform in senior bands and began to mentor and encourage that passion for performance in others as a judge of marching band contests.
