Historical NotesThis hard hat was worn at Jones & Laughlin Steel Company by James D. Janes who worked for J&L Steel after serving three years in the Korean War. He first worked at the Aliquippa Works in the Industrial Engineering Department. In 1957, J&L built a strip mill; Jim worked for five years as Senior Turn Schedule, being promoted in 1962 to Schedule Planner, a position he held until 1982 when the mill shut down. He was then transferred to the Raw Materials division. At the age of 62, Jim was laid off, and was forced to take an early retirement.
