Historical NotesSteelworker Mike Sokol's hard hat, collected at the site of the United States Steel Corporation's Duquesne Works. Iit is likely that the yellow color of this helmet denoted a certain job or work area within the steel mill.Label TextIn the Duquesne Works steel mill, as in other steel mills, hard hats had to be worn by everyone from new steelworkers to seasoned steelworkers to supervisors to visitors for safety reasons. The hard hats were made in many different forms and different colors which could possibly reflect the wearer’s specific jobs or status. All of these objects were collected from the Duquesne Works plant after it closed in the 1980s.
