DescriptionCollage on rectangular piece of light green cardboard. The front of the cardboard is covered with scraps of white paper which have been covered with different colors of paint. Along the left half, there is black, red, and black paint splatters. Along the right half, there are pieces of white paper, with light green, peach, and grey paint, with black splatters. On the back of the cardboard, there is a strip of masking tape with dark green and white paint.Dimensions5.25 x 4.75 in. (13.3 x 12.1 cm)
Historical NotesArtwork by the Pittsburgh artist Samuel Rosenberg. Artist and teacher Samuel Rosenberg (1896-1972) had a prolific career in Pittsburgh, leading him to be called the “Dean of Pittsburgh painters.” He is perhaps best-known for his scenes of the Hill District in the 1920s and 1930s. Rosenberg was a beloved presence in the Pittsburgh art world and influenced numerous artists through his teaching careers at the Irene Kaufmann Settlement, Young Men & Women’s Hebrew Association, and Carnegie Tech.
