Historical NotesThe Bank of Pittsburgh money bag donated by numismatic enthusiast Wayne Horman. The Bank of Pittsburgh, the second bank in Pittsburgh, formed in 1810 after the General Assembly of Pennsylvania passed a general banking law in 1808. In 1812 the name changed to Pittsburgh Manufacturing Company due to issues with the banking laws and Judge William Wilkins acted as the first president. After a new general banking law passed in 1814 the firm again became the Bank of Pittsburgh. It received a national charter in 1898.
