DescriptionFramed valentine gift. Elaborate gold frame with gold leafing on the corners and tops of the frame. Glass cover, with an embroidered object within the frame. Object depicts mother and child on a bridge with the landscape in the background. Surrounding the picture are embroidered red flowers outlined by blue embroidered thread. Plain cardboard back. Historical NotesA Valentine gift given to Emily Kimmich from her husband, Louis Kimmich on Feb. 14, 1897. German immigrant Emily Medick was a personal seamstress to the H.J. Heinz family until her marriage to another German immigrant, Louis Kimmich, in 1896. The family lived at 5412 Broad Street in East Liberty where Louis ran the L. Kimmich barber shop. The family had two children, a daughter named Henrietta and a son.
