DescriptionHexagonal red-brown wooden musical instrument with expanding/collapsing bellow in the center. Looped handle, ten white buttons arranged in two rows and numbered 1-10, and holes for air to escape are on each side. One additional button is in the thumb area on the (right?) side. Grommeted holes and blue paper with gold leaves decorates the edges around the bellow.Dimensions7.25 x 8 x 9.5 in. (18.4 x 20.3 x 24.1 cm)

Historical NotesConcertina used by donor Colman Coogan's grandmother, Annie Quinn. Annie Guinan was born in County Tipperrery, Ireland. She later worked as a domestic servant for the Havemeyer family in Connecticut. She married William Quinn, June 20, 1899. William Quinn was also born in Ireland but met Annie in Connecticut; he had lived in Pittsburgh before that time and the couple later returned to Pittsburgh after their marriage.
