DescriptionNurse uniform comprised of jacket, skirt, blouse, and necktie. Jacket. Purple polyester, long sleeved. Four pockets in front, with black circular plastic buttons. Same type of buttons down front with a metal snap button at end. On collar lapels: embroidered caduceus, the winged staff and serpents of the Medical Corps, with country abbreviation embroidered in orange and yellow. Proper left sleeve: patch featuring an upside down corporal insignia patch. Fabric belt with buttons. Inside lined with black satin. Skirt. Purple polyester, flares at bottom. Four metal snap buttons down proper left side from waistline. Front pockets with circular black plastic buttons. Appears to have been tailored: cinched on back waist and a double-sided hem is present down back. Blouse. Tan, long sleeved cotton blouse with circular plastic buttons. Necktie. Historical NotesWilma Forester Leighton (1890-1968) grew up in Texas and attended Allegheny General Hospital's nursing school, which closed in 1968. A great reader, Wilma had two daughters, one of which died of influenza. She served in France during the first World War.
