Architects began designing separate rooms for dining, and cabinetmakers began making specific pieces of furniture to fill dining rooms. Most notable were sideboards for storing table linens, glassware, and cutlery, and for serving meals. Cutlery boxes designed to hold knives, spoons, and forks used at the table usually rested on top of sideboards. Their graceful forms and beautiful veneers and inlay patterns heightened the sumptuousness of the dining experience.
