DescriptionMercury Sheraton wheel barometer or banjo barometer. Mahogany veneer on pine substrate with boxwood and ebony edging. Inlaid shell designs at top, center, and bottom. Architectural pediment at top with (detached) cast brass finial at center. Along the left side of the thermometer there are temperature demarcations from -40 degrees to 150 degrees in increments of 10.
Along the right side of the thermometer is text "Blood / Heat / Sumr / Heat / Tempe / rate / Freez / ing".
Around the perimeter of the barometer window is text, starting at 7:00 and going clockwise "28 / 29 / 30 / 31" and around an inset circle is text, starting at 12:00 and going clockwise, "Change / FAIR / SET-FAIR / VERY-DRY / STORMY / MUCH-RAIN / RAIN".

Historical NotesBarometer was purchased by the donor Steven G. Elliott at Barometer Fair in Sarasota, Florida in April of 2000. The barometer is a Sheraton wheel type, c. 1820.
