Historical NotesHuppah from Lubin and Smalley flower shop. Lubin and Smalley was started in 1917 on Smithfield Street by Mr. Lubin and Mr. Smalley. They were just a small store on the second floor of a sandwich shop, but they became a Pittsburgh institution, closing in 2011. They moved locations in 1920-1921 to Fifth Avenue and then one last time to Market Square in 1993. In 1969, Lubin and Smalley sold the business to Sid Rosen, but they both stayed on and worked into their 70s before retiring. In 1996, donor Rich Lo Presti bought the shop. He closed the shop in 2011, when the building was sold and the new owner wanted to increase the rent by 29%.
