Historical NotesBelonged to donor's mother, Ruth Ann Scott Riethmuller, who received it as a gift from a man for whom her father gave rides into Pittsburgh.Label TextFamily history records that an unidentified metalworker living in Shaler Township made the doll cradle for the donor’s mother, Ruth Ann Scott, in the early 1920s. As a way of thanking John James Scott, Sr., for driving him to work in Pittsburgh, the metalworker constructed the cradle for John Scott’s infant daughter. More than merely toys, doll furniture taught young girls gender roles and social values.
