Historical NotesSilver Cross pram. The donor David Speidel came to the United States in this pram when he was a child. The donor’s mother, Margaret Poiser, immigrated to the United States from England in 1956 on the merchant marine ship S.S. Geiger. She met the donor’s father, Donald Speidel, a U.S. serviceman when he was stationed at the Burton Wood Air Force base in Manchester, England during the Korean War. They married in England, and then he was sent back to the United States and his wife followed a few months later. They settled in Greensburg, Pennsylvania, and he went back to working at WABCO after his military service was complete. From WABCO, he moved to West Penn Power Company and the family moved to the North Huntingdon/Irwin, Pennsylvania area. The pram was used for the donor David Speidel and his siblings as well as the grandchildren before being donated. Margaret made some alterations over the years including a cover for the pram that is c. 1970s.
