Historical Notes38-star flag made in 1876 after Colorado was made the 38th state on August 1, 1876. The flag was passed down in the family and they assume it was made to fly in front of the general store owned by the donor's great grandfather Cyrus Howard. Cyrus and his wife Sarah James Victoria Ross Howard ran a general store in the front part of their house in Mt. Pleasant, PA on the corner of Howard and South Diamond Street. According to writing on the flag it was made by the Smith sisters, but the donor does not know anything about the sisters. According to writing on the flag the stars were originally painted, but were damaged after being loaned to a church and replaced by cloth stars.
