Historical NotesPart of a collection donated by the Serbian National Federation.Label TextKing Peter II, became king at age 11 in 1934 after his father, King Alexander Karadjordjevic, was assassinated. Alexander’s cousin, Prince Pavle Karadjordjevic, headed the Regency until King Peter II authorized a coup d’etat to depose the Regency who gave in and signed the Tripartite Act prior to WWII. King Peter II was the last king of Yugoslavia. While in exile, King Peter II visited Pittsburgh and the surrounding regions in 1959. He is interred in Illinois, the only European monarch buried on American soil.
