Historical NotesThis deck of Pittsburgh-themed playing cards was produced by W.J. Gilmore and Company in 1901. W.J. Gilmore was a wholesale drug company in Pittsburgh from 1886 to the mid-20th century. The firm began after W.J. Gilmore and partners bought the Mackgeown Thompson Company and reorganized it. They were first headquarted on Liberty Avenue, then 7th Avenue before building a nine-story building between First and Second Avenue and Smithfield Street/Cherry Way on the site of the old Homeopathic Hospital in 1927.
