Historical NotesThis sign was collected at the site of the Duquesne Works of United States Steel Corporation. It appears to have been made at the sign shop at the mill, and was possibly located at the Soaking Pit Offices.Label TextThese signs from the Duquesne Works steel mill were probably made in the sign shop onsite. They make it clear that the mill was a place where danger was constantly present. Many signs warning of hazards or saying “caution” or “danger” could be found in the mill to keep employees and visitors alert and aware of the dangers of their surroundings. The sign mandating hearing protection reinforces the idea that the mill was a noisy place.
