DescriptionRectangular collage on a magazine paper base. Elaborate geometric abstract design painted on top of the magazine paper, which is visible in the upper left corner and in spots where the paint has chipped away. Pencil markings seperate the design. Composed mainly of rectangles and squares in various sizes painted in colors such as: brown, tan, grey, white, black, yellow, red, and green. Artist and teacher Samuel Rosenberg (1896-1972) had a prolific career in Pittsburgh, leading him to be called the “Dean of Pittsburgh painters.” He is perhaps best-known for his scenes of the Hill District in the 1920s and 1930s. Rosenberg was a beloved presence in the Pittsburgh art world and influenced numerous artists through his teaching careers at the Irene Kaufmann Settlement, Young Men & Women’s Hebrew Association, and Carnegie Tech.
