DescriptionRectangular collage on a magazine paper base. Heavily layered with pieces of tissue paper, magazine paper, and wax paper. Tissue paper and wax paper material is saturated with watercolors and ink blots, especially in the center. Artist and teacher Samuel Rosenberg (1896-1972) had a prolific career in Pittsburgh, leading him to be called the “Dean of Pittsburgh painters.” He is perhaps best-known for his scenes of the Hill District in the 1920s and 1930s. Rosenberg was a beloved presence in the Pittsburgh art world and influenced numerous artists through his teaching careers at the Irene Kaufmann Settlement, Young Men & Women’s Hebrew Association, and Carnegie Tech.
