DescriptionRectangular Lewis and Clark Bicentennial Commemorative journal kept by members of the Rooney Corps of Rediscovery (members of the Rooney Family). Paper covers are printed to mimic leather. Interior of front and back covers have green marbleized paper. Pages have Lewis and Clark Expedition history, maps, illustrations, and excerpts from the explorers' journals. Historical NotesJournal from Rooney Family Lewis and Clark trip, known as the Rooney Corps of Rediscovery. The journal contains two handwritten entries by two different members of the Rooney Family. The first entry documents the family's experience dining with Native Americans in Billings, Montana, on June 26 and visiting Little Bighorn. The second entry was written by Mary Rooney, Age 11, on June 28, 2003, and documents her experience meeting "Indians" and learning aboout their cultural practices including "The Sweat;" this entry is accompanied by a handdrawn depiction of this practice.
