BiographyReverend Luther Paul Spoehr was born in Detroit, Michigan, on March 16, 1893, to Rev. Eugene G. and Elizabeth Spoehr. Rev. Spoehr attended Capital University in Columbus, Ohio, and graduated in June, 1915, with an arts degree. That same year, he entered the Lutheran Theological Seminary at Capital University, and completed his seminary training in June, 1918. He was ordained by his father on July 14, 1918, at St. Johns Lutheran Church in Mars, Pa., and became the pastor of St. Luke Lutheran Church in West View, Pa., on July 21, 1918. On February 26, 1919, he married Theodosia Louise Wagner. They had two children, Dr. Luther W. Spoeher and Mrs. Miriam Hummel. Rev. Spoehr served as a pastor of St. John of Lovi in Cranberry, Pa., between 1918 and 1924, an interim pastor of St. Paul's Lutheran Church in North Park, Pa., from 1921 through 1925, and was pastor of St. Luke Lutheran Church from 1918 to 1963. In 1952 Rev. Spoehr and his wife represented the St. Luke congregation at the Lutheran World Convention in Hanover, Germany. In 1964, he retired from active ministry and was Pastor Emeritus at St. Luke until his death in 1976. While he was pastor, Rev. Spoehr sent missionaries from his congregation to India and New Guinea, and expanded St. Luke congregation from 26 to over 900 members.
