Home for Colored Childrenfounded 1880

The Termon Avenue Home for Colored Children was founded in 1880 in Allegheny City by Rev. Dr. James Fulton a young white pastor of the Fourth United Presbyterian Church after he discovered an orphaned Nellie Grant wandering around the city. The Home was not originally at Termon Avenue but was later moved to a mansion there in 1893. The Girls’ Service Club formed for needy white girls by the Junior League of Pittsburgh and the Termon Avenue Home joined together to become known as the Three Rivers Youth.
