BiographyEdwin Wiegand founded his Pittsburgh company (Edwin L. Wiegand Company, now Chromalox,) in 1917, based on his 1915 patent for an insulated heating device. In the 1960s, his company developed a strip heater for the NASA’s Apollo program that kept the electronic control box on the Lunar Module’s at a temperature that insured the crucial fuel triggering device would function.
