DescriptionBlue glass toothpick holder of a hand holding a torch. Holder has a circular base that transitions to a hand holding a torch with flames coming out the top; hand's wrist has a cuff with a button on it. Inside of the torch is hollow and mouth is circular and open. Three vertical seams from base to top of flames. Underside of base has etched lines radiating from the center.DimensionsHeight x Width x Depth: 4.5 x 2 x 2.5 in. (11.4 x 5.1 x 6.4 cm)Historical NotesThe Liberty Torch was introduced along with other novelties by Bryce Brothers in 1886 to commemorate the dedication of the Statue of Liberty. The design was most likely inspired by the work of French sculptor Frédéric Auguste Bartholdi, who sculpted the Statue of Liberty. Bartholdi was unable to complete the entire statue before the Centennial Exposition in Philadelphia in 1876, so he sent the hand and torch to be displayed by itself.
