Historical NotesDisabled American Veterans key chain. Part of a collection that belonged to various members of donor Alan J. Davidson’s family who were from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. This key chain was owned by one of the donor’s father’s uncles, Dr. Evan I. Brown, MD of West Newton, Pennsylvania, or George Thompson of Buena Vista, Pennsylvania, or his cousin, Anna Thompson also of Buena Vista, Pennsylvania, donor is not sure which. These tags were an ongoing, nationwide fundraising activity of the Disabled American Veterans. The DAV mailed them, gratuitously, to people when they got new license plates, asking only that the recipient consider making a donation. The DAV’s selling point was that, if the tag were attached to one’s car keys, they’d return the lost keys to their owner.
