Historical NotesTall case clock purchased by the donor Raymond Werner at an auction at St. John the Baptist in New Baltimore, Pennsylvania. The auction was held because the Carmelite monastery, built in 1890, was being converted into a retreat center. The donor was told that the clock was made onsite, most likely by the same artist who did the sanctuary at St. John the Baptist. They were told it was a folk Germanic style and made in the mid-to-late 1800s. The clock is made out of Pennsylvania Oak. St. John's can be seen from the Pennsylvania Turnpike and has become known as “the Church on the Turnpike.” It can be accessed by two set of steps leading from either side of the Turnpike.
