DescriptionBlack wool and rayon knit dress, size 6. Round jewel neckline with teardrop keyhole opening on front of chest. Gold beads (round and cylindrical) and sequins bordering neckline and keyhole and in arranged in curvilinear forms on front of shoulders and chest with additional clear crystal details. Mounted at top of keyhole is hemispherical embellishment comprised of clear crystals set in gold mount. Long-sleeves with gold beads (round and cylindrical) and sequins around the cuffs; each cuff has black metal snap for closure along side opening. Knee-length skirt with decorative knit around bottom edge. Pleats around waist and shoulders. Black metal zipper down back opening. MarksInside back at the top to the proper left of the zipper are two white fabric labels with black embroidered text:

Historical NotesDress worn by Rochelle S. Friedman at evening banquet after her swearing-in ceremony in 1992. Rochelle S. Friedman was raised in the East Liberty neighborhood of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. She attended Rogers School and the University of Pittsburgh for both undergraduate and law school. Friedman served as a judicial law clerk to Judge James R. McGregor of the Court of Common Pleas of Allegheny County and as solicitor to Robert N. Peirce, Clerk of Courts of Allegheny County. After three failed attempts at running for the Court of Common Pleas, she won a seat on the Commonwealth Court of Pennsylvania and served from 1992 until her retirement in 2016. She was notable for her defense of the first amendment, the rights of women and minorities, and other civil liberties.
