DescriptionThree-piece presentation gown consisting of a bodice, skirt, and detachable train. Light grey satin.
Bodice with cap on sleeves and multiple stays. Similar decoration to that on skirt with additional lace over shoulders, down front, back, and around waist.
Full-length skirt decorated with darker grey velvet ribbon, bows, and streamers pattern; ribbons outlined in silver sequins and thread, chiffon and lace, rosettes and bows; pearls and glass beads; embroidered in additional floral designs; three rows of horizontal bands of ermine with tails on lower front of skirt; plain satin train.

Historical NotesGown worn by Sarah Kerr Cole at her presentation to King Albert and Queen Carola of Saxony on January 1, 1898. Her husband, Charles Lawrence Cole was Consul-General. Made by Stern & Co. in Vienna, Austria. Donated to the Carnegie Museum of Natural History in 1936 by their daughter Edith Granger Cole. Transferred to the Historical Society of Western Pennsylvania in 1994.
