DescriptionMetal and enamel event badge. Badge is comprised of top metal banner-shaped section with horizontal pinback on reverse; banner has black event information. Suspended by two metal rings from the banner is a metal medallion rimmed with leaf patterns framing circular enamel center. Enamel section has blue border with gold text surrounding central Pennsylvania coat of arms on white background; red and gold keystone at bottom center with gold state abbreviation. Reverse of medallion has engraved owner's name across center with decorative engraved arches above and below.DimensionsHeight x Width x Depth: 1.813 x 1.25 x 0.313 in. Front has gold text around perimeter of badge's enamel section "WOMEN'S AUXILIARY COMMITTEE / PA" and black text at the base of the central seal "VIRTUE / LIBERTY / INDEPENDENCE".
Reverse of badge's bottom section has engraved text "Elizabeth A. Wade".
Historical NotesThis 1893 Columbian Exhibition badge belonged to Elizabeth Angus Wade, also known as Bessie Bramble. Elizabeth Wade represented Pennsylvania at the Chicago World's Fair in 1893, according to attendance lists in the Pittsburg Press. The badge came from her granddaughter Beth Yewell, whose cousin's granddaughter Stephanie Pierre (who had inherited the pin) donated it the Women's Press Club of Pittsburgh in 2021.
