DescriptionTransparent blue pressed glass pitcher, Hobnail pattern. Circular domed base with steep dots on underside. Base has band of convex dots around side. Cylindrical body that widens slightly toward top opening; bottom three-quarters of body is covered in steep dots; top quarter of body is smooth. Rim is scalloped and has a gently sloped spout that is taller than and protrudes out from the rim. Smooth, slightly angular handle has scalloped outer edge. Eld's great-grandfather Christopher Roessler (1855-1902), a German immigrant who worked in a South Side glass factory in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. The family does not know which glass factory he worked in, but were told employees were allowed to make items for personal use during their lunch break. The family lived on South 15th Street in Birmingham (South Side) until Christopher’s death.
