DescriptionFemale lion display figure. Indonesian-style. Animal is crouched on its hindquarters with front legs straight. Head is turned slightly proper right. Mouth is open with tongue visible inside (tip of tongue is no longer intact), and beard extends down from chin. Constructed of red and gold painted wood and painted plaster(?) with green, blue, silver, and red glass inlay. Ornate carving and sculpted details throughout body including spirals, leaf, and floral motifs. White painted teeth. Tail is detached and in two pieces. Human-shaped female reproductive organ on underside of hindquarters identifies this lion as female.Dimensions(a) Height 66, Width 28.5, Depth 41;

Historical NotesPart of a collection of artifacts that document the downtown location of Kaufmann’s (became Macy’s) department store. This large collection of items was field gathered from the downtown location of Macy’s (formerly Kaufmann’s) after the store’s final closing was announced in the fall of 2015.
