DescriptionPolice uniform service cap, size 7 5/8. Gray fabric crown with brass hat badge mounted on front; badge is in the shape of the Allegheny County Seal. Black ribbed fabric hatband above black leather brim adorned with metallic thread embroidered leaves. Yellow fabric chinstrap sits atop brim and is affixed with one gray metal button on each side of cap. Interior has brown leather sweatband with red ribbon bow tied at back. Woven black structure inside of crown. Historical NotesStetson hat worn as part of an Allegheny County Police patrolman’s uniform. Part of a collection that documents the Allegheny County Police. Formed in 1932, the County Police provide policing for the International and Allegheny airports, county property such as North Park and South Park, as well as assisting local police forces when needed. They have a mounted unit, detective division, as well as homicide and narcotics units.
