Historical NotesFlag from Jewish War Veterans Bellefield Post No. 299. Jewish War Veterans Bellefield Post No. 299 was the first World War II post of the JWV in Pittsburgh. The post was chartered in February 1945, under the oversight of Pittsburgh Jewish War Veterans Post No. 49. The post provided rehabilitation services for newly returned veterans at the end of World War I and later hosted social events and fundraisers, most notably the annual Cavalcade of Sports. Jewish War Veterans Bellefield Post No. 299 Women’s Auxiliary was also founded in 1945. Bellefield Post No. 299 merged with Post No. 49 in 2007 to create Pittsburgh Post No. 499, which serves Allegheny County. Donor Jacob Notovitz is a WWII veteran and an officer with the Allegheny County Council of Jewish War Veterans of the United States. He had also been a member of the Bellefield post until the merger in 2007.
