Historical NotesBowling shirt worn by Albert " Al" Kovacik Sr. (b. 1918) of Donora, Pennsylvania. He bowled recreationally throughout his life, primarily with the Donora Jednota (first Catholic Slovak Union) along with his wife, Dorothy Kovacik. As membership in many regional Slovak Unions dwindled, they merged to become the Mon Valley Jednota. The Kovaciks bowled with the Jednota team as early as 1950 until 1976, when they retired to Florida. Kovacik served as a rifle scout in France, Belgium, Luxembourg, and Germany with the 8th Infantry during WWII. Before and after the war, he worked for American Steel as a barbed wire machine operator and blocker.
