Historical NotesAkamai Summer Double IPA can. Emergency Quarantine Ration beer can from Brew Gentlemen. This beer can was produced during the COVID-19 pandemic and documents how local businesses responded to the pandemic with signature offerings or packaging that reflected the reality of the global pandemic. The Emergency Quarantine Rations beer cans were part of the Emergency Quarantine Operations (EQO) of Brew Gentlemen. You could order your beer online and have it delivered to your trunk via contactless pick-up during the height of restrictions. They closed their taproom on March 16, 2020, and commenced the EQO response with a posting on their Facebook page outlining the new procedures for ordering and pick-up. Started in 2014 by CMU alumni Asa Foster and Matt Katase, both 23 at the time, Brew Gentlemen became one of the most awarded regional breweries. The 2012 graduates wrote their first business plan for a class on entrepreneurship after deciding they wanted to start a brewery and switching their majors to a self-defined track with a business focus. They originally specialized in New England style hazy IPA beers. Located in the heart of Braddock, Pennsylvania, their signature beer is named General Braddock’s IPA, after the British general and namesake of the town where he lost his life in a French and American Indian ambush on his way to capture Fort Duquesne from the French during the French and Indian War. They chose Braddock after Asa became familiar with the community via a project in one of his CMU art classes. The pair decided they wanted to be a part of the revitalization of the town. Brew Gentlemen is located in a renovated electrical supply storefront and warehouse near the Edgar Thompson Works.
