Silver-gray metal soup can, 10.5 ounces. Can is empty and open on the top. Red, white, light yellow, and black paper label adhered around the side of the can features a color image of the French Onion soup and has printed product and maker information; label is covered with handwritten names/signatures in black ink. Underside has printed blue text.
Detached lid is flat, circular silver-gray metal pop-top-style. Lid has slightly curved overall from opening process and is bent downward on side below the pop-top handle from opening process. Pop-top handle does not sit flush with the lid. Top of lid has handwritten commemorative text in black ink.DimensionsHeight x Diameter (a): 4 x 2.75 in. Historical NotesAutographed Riverbend foods French Onion Soup can. Last can off the production line on July 19, 2019, and is signed by employees. The Riverbend Foods factory was located in the old Heinz factory in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. After Heinz closed its factory production in Pittsburgh they sold to Del Monte in 2002 and they continued to make some Heinz products at the factory like its private label soups and baby food. They then sold to TreeHouse Foods/Bay Valley Foods in 2006 before Riverbend paid 22 million for the site around 2017. They made private-label soup, baby food, alfredo sauce, and cold brew coffee for stores like Walmart, Kroger, and Giant Eagle. Donor Todd Krut worked at the plant through the various ownership for 13.5 years, he was the lead mechanic in the production line. 400 union workers, part of the United Food and Commercial workers union, Local 23, lost their jobs with the closing.
