Historical NotesThis Fortnum & Mason Heinz Tomato Ketchup bottle was made to commemorate the 150th anniversary of the H.J.Heinz Company. In 1889 H.J. Heinz made his first international sale at famed London department store Fortnum & Mason. They famously told him “We’ll take the lot” which is memorialized on the front of the 150-anniversary packaging. This represents both Heinz’s international expansion and the influence of Heinz on the British diet, particularly in their consumption of baked beans. First introduced as a low-cost product to the British market after Heinz built a plant outside London and now a staple of the British diet.Label TextWhen Heinz went on his first international trip to England in 1886, he brought along a sampling of his products in an attempt to break into the British market. His visit to the famed department store Fortnum & Mason proved a success when the company said, “We’ll take the lot” now memorialized on these products that celebrate the Heinz company’s 150th anniversary.
