Proper left breast has three patches, the top patch has blue text "25" and red text "MACH"; the center is a name badge with yellow text "JAY APT"; and the bottom has white text "NASA".

Proper right sleeve has three embroidered space shuttle mission patches: top STS-37 mission patch has white text around perimeter "CAMERON ROSS APT GODWIN NAGEL"; the center STS-47 mission patch has black and red text around the perimeter "GIBSON APT BROWN MOHRI JEMISON DAVIS LEE SLJ"; and the STS-59 mission patch has white and black text around the perimeter "CHILTON GODWIN JONES SRL-1 APT CLIFFORD GUTIERREZ".
MarksEach zipper has engraved text “SCOVILL” and “GRIPPER”.

Inside proper left chest are three maker labels: the top label has white embroidered text "Flight Suits Ltd / EL CAJON, CALIFORNIA"; bottom label has black printed text and blue handwritten text "NASA/JSC CONTRACT NAS 9-17218 / SERIAL NO: 54 / SIZE / NAME"; between the two labels is a white tag with embroidered blue text "MADE IN / U. S. A."
Historical NotesT38 flight suit plane-flown by Jay Apt for flight training. NASA aircraft flight suits are made of Nomex, a synthetic aramid fiber that is flame- and heat-resistant and protects against many chemicals. After a crew mission patch was available, the crew was authorized to wear the patch on their flight suits. This flight suit displays all four of Jay Apt’s mission patches, as well as the Mach 25 patch crewmembers were authorized to wear after their first Shuttle atmospheric entry. The nametag with gold astronaut wings and gold lettering was issued to Apt after his first space mission; grey nametags were worn prior to the first mission.
