Historical NotesRoccamandolfi banner. The Roccamandolfi banner belonged to Joseph D’Andrea, who was born in Roccamandolfi, a village in the Italian region of Molise, province of Isernia. Late in his career, he was bestowed the position of honorary Vice Consul of Italy in Pittsburgh and was honored by different organizations in Italy because of his role. Once such instance was when D’Andrea returned to Italy to share his research on the Monongah mining disaster, an event in West Virginia where a number of Eastern European and Italian immigrant labors were killed in a mine collapse. During this visit, he received this Roccamandolfi banner from officials of his former commune.
