Label TextThe veneration of saints is an integral element of Italian American religious tradition. This banner honoring the life of Saint Anthony of Padua adorned Regina Coeli Catholic Church located in the Manchester neighborhood of Pittsburgh’s North Side. The banner was brought out for special occasions, including the annual festa, or feast day, in honor of Saint Anthony. Regina Coeli opened its doors in 1905 in order to accommodate the religious needs of Italian immigrants who had recently migrated to Manchester from downtown Pittsburgh. The church celebrated its last mass in 1992.
