DescriptionFranco's Italian Army needlepoint pillow cover. Front has needlepoint white, green, and red stripes. Needlepoint text on front is name of sports fan group over a shield with vertical green, white, and red fields. Rolled border and back is green velvet-like fabric. Interior is mostly empty with only a few remnants of the original cotton batting. There is an opening at the bottom of the pillow cover where the batting was removed.Dimensions14.875 x 16.75 x 1 in. Historical NotesFranco's Italian Army needlepoint pillow cover made by donor Mary Hope Straub's mother in 1976. The donor's mother, Mary Pitacciato Kirk (1913-1995), was of Italian descent and lived in Forest Hills. The pillow cover commemorates the Pittsburgh Steelers' Super Bowl IX win over the Minnesota Vikings on January 12, 1975, at Tulane Stadium in New Orleans, Louisiana. Franco Harris was the game MVP.
