(50.8 x 43.2 cm)Label TextIn the late 1880s, Edward Bigelow, Director of Public Works for Pittsburgh, made a trip to England to persuade Mary Schenley to donate a portion of her inherited land to the city, where Schenley spent little time. He met with success, and in 1889 the 300-acre Schenley Park opened to the public. When Carnegie later tried the same tactic, she made him purchase the land.
