Historical NotesDuring WWII Vera, and her sisters, Ann, and Julie, worked at Dravo shipyards on Neville Island. Like many women during the war, they performed jobs frequently assigned to men. All three sisters were welders, but Vera’s skill qualified her to weld stainless steel, the only woman at Dravo to do so. In 1942 Dravo was awarded an All-Navy “E” (Excellence) award for their production for the war effort. Each employee, including Vera, received a small pin commemorating that honor.Label TextDuring World War II, Vera Jurjevic and her two sisters worked as welders at the Dravo Corporation shipyards on Neville Island. Jurjevic worked as a welder on the construction of LSTs (Landing Ship Tanks, an amphibious vehicle) and received this “E” Award pin for her services.
