Historical NotesPattens were worn to insulate the feet from a hot surface. These steelworker's clogs were worn by the donor, George Zrust, when he worked at the Clairton Works, US Steel, in the summer of 1972, to help support himself as a student at the University of Pittsburgh. His father worked there and was able to help him get the job, which he described as "an incredible incentive to complete college so he wouldn't have to return to the intense heat of the steel mill."
