Historical NotesHard hat collected at the abandoned U.S. Steel Corporation's Duquesne Works site. This hard hat was apparently intended to be worn by a new employee, during on-the-job training.Label TextIn the Duquesne Works steel mill, as in other steel mills, hard hats had to be worn by everyone from new steelworkers to seasoned steelworkers to supervisors to visitors for safety reasons. The hard hats were made in many different forms and different colors which could possibly reflect the wearer’s specific jobs or status. All of these objects were collected from the Duquesne Works plant after it closed in the 1980s.
